Why Living Near the Water is Good For Your Health

Living near the water can be a lot of fun, additionally a seaside or riverside location can also be good for your health. The very things that make life on the water so attractive, including ample recreational opportunities, fresh seafood and abundant sunshine, can also keep you healthy and happy well into old age.

Simply put, there is much more to living near the water than the spectacular views, although those waterfront views are hard to beat. Living near the water can be good for your body and your mind, giving you at least two more reasons to make the move.

Mental Health Benefits

Living near the water is good for your mental and emotional health, and the benefits run wide and deep. Simply looking at the waves can give you a sense of calm, helping you relax after a hard day at work and reducing your overall stress level.

Spending time on the water could even lower your blood pressure, leaving you with a feeling of calm and well-being and freeing you from the side effects of many blood pressure medication. Life on the water is no substitute for proper medical care, but it can make you feel a lot better.

Physical Health Benefits

The abundant sunshine of a seaside location is good for your physical as well as your mental and emotional health. Sunshine activates the vitamin D in your diet, helping you better metabolize the nutrients and allowing your body to absorb it more completely. Low vitamin D levels can be bad for your overall health and vitality, but spending more time in the sun can reverse those harmful effects and leave you feeling great.

The negative ions in the air can also be good for your physical health, and those negative ions are abundant in most waterfront locations. There is a reason the air seems so crisp, clean, and vibrant by the water, and that clean air can be a real boost for your overall health.

The abundant recreational opportunities that come with the waterfront lifestyle are just as good for your physical health. If you live by the water, you can go swimming any time you want, without waiting for the local pool to open. You can also enjoy other physically demanding forms of fun, from kayaking and kite sailing to deep sea fishing and water skiing. All in all, it is good for your physical health, and one more reason to make your next home one with a waterfront location.

If you are looking for a way to improve your physical, emotional and mental well-being, maybe a change of scenery is what you need. There is something about the water that draws us in, makes us comfortable and calms us down, and the advantages of seaside and riverside living are quite profound. Humans have been drawn to the water since their earliest caveman days, and the earliest cities and settlements were waterfront locations.

Our ancient ancestors were on to something, and they possessed an innate recognition that life on the water was good for both body and soul. Modern humans share the same recognition, and they are still moving to the water in droves. Joining your waterfront colleagues could improve your quality of life, but waterfront living could also give your physical and mental health a boost.

Watch out for Daytona Beach in 2017

Long-time residents of Daytona Beach already know it is a wonderful place to live, work, and play, so of course it makes sense that more and more people are attracted to the area. Many real estate experts expect Daytona Beach to be one of the most desirable markets in the country in 2017 and beyond, and there are plenty of reasons they think so.

Forbes.com recently  rated Daytona Beach to Ormond Beach as the 3rd hottest real estate market to watch in 2017. That study, contributed by Trulia, was based on three significant factors, and the Daytona Beach region scored high in all of them. Here are the three best reasons to move to Daytona Beach in 2017.

Job Growth

Job growth spurs a local economy and attracts new residents. Home buyers like to know they will be able to work close to home and afford the mortgage. They need to know that the employment situation in the area is stable, and that future opportunities for growth will be available.

Daytona Beach scored well in terms of job growth, from its new high-end developments creating construction jobs, to the large number of national and international businesses the region has recently attracted. The One Daytona development is just another exciting example of new development bringing hundreds of new permanent jobs to the area.

Home Affordability

It is no secret that real estate prices have recovered significantly since the depths of the Great Recession, but housing in Daytona Beach is still surprisingly affordable. Home affordability was one of the factors Trulia looked at when creating its rankings, and the Daytona Beach region scored very high on that list.

Homes in the Daytona Beach area are priced at less than the national average, making the region a natural choice for new buyers, downsizers, and others looking for an affordable lifestyle. Equally as important, increasing property values should continue to drive growth in the future, making a home in Daytona Beach a wise investment in a great beachside community.

Online Search Frequency

These days, most potential buyers use the Internet to research an area and potential homes before they start making a move. That is why Trulia considered online search frequency for housing in their rankings, and once again, Daytona Beach scored well.

Daytona Beach is a hot market for flipping houses, and its combination of low prices and ample housing stock has attracted real estate investors from around the country and across the globe. Whether you are an investor, a first-time home buyer, or a downsizer, you can find what you want in this great growing area of the East Coast.

Bike Week in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach has long been a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts, with the warm Florida weather and the sunshine serving as a fitting backdrop for a week-long, two-wheeled fun. At any one time, there are thousands of motorcycles prowling the streets of Daytona Beach and its surrounding areas, but when Bike Week comes around things get taken to a whole different level.

History

The famous Daytona Beach Bike Fest has a long and storied history, with the first one held in 1937. The first rally, even though it was thought to only attract just a few hundred motorcycles, was viewed as an instant success. The Daytona Beach Bike Fest took a break during the World War II years, as Americans focused on more important matters and fought to bring their country back from the brink. From 1942 to 1947, there was no motorcycle rally on the streets of Daytona Beach, but Bike Fest came roaring back once the war ended and we were once again in the mood to party.

Much has changed from the origins of The Daytona Beach Bike Fest. The bikes, bikers, and the area may have looked a bit different in the old days, but the spirit behind Daytona Beach Bike Fest remains the same even some eight decades later. The name was even changed to Daytona Beach Bike Week.

Present Day Bike Week

With hundreds of thousands of bikes and their owners coming into Daytona Beach for Bike Week, this 10-day motorcycle rally is one of the largest, and certainly one of the best attended rallies in the entire country. This annual event draws bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the region and around the United States. It typically takes place in early March, right after The Daytona 500 and Daytona Speedweeks, so there is still time to make your plans and get your own bike ready for the action.

Still going strong after more than seven decades in existence, Daytona Beach Bike Week is bigger, badder, and louder than ever before. This famous bike rally features many events attendees will only find at Daytona Beach Bike Week, including Cabbage Patch Coleslaw wrestling. Festivities take place throughout the Daytona Beach area, but some of the biggest and best events are found along Main Street and on US1 in Ormond Beach. Aside from the coleslaw wrestling matches, attendees at Daytona Beach Bike Week can enjoy daily bike shows, motorcycle swap meets, live music and concerts at Destination Daytona, and other popular downtown bars and even professional motorcycle racing at the world-famous Daytona International Speedway.

If you live to ride, Daytona Beach is the place to be this March. Just jump on your favorite bike, point the handlebars toward Daytona Beach and head south. When you arrive, you will find plenty of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts, along with live music, great food, and the camaraderie only the biker community fully understands.

Things To Do In Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach is known worldwide for a variety of reasons. If you’re looking for things to do in Daytona Beach, here are some of the best options for you and your family.

“The World’s Most Famous Beach” – Even more than NASCAR and Bike Week, the beach is probably the reason most people know about Daytona Beach. Daytona gained worldwide notoriety due to that fact that you can actually drive on the beach. While there are other places where this is allowed (nearby New Smyrna Beach allows this, as well), Daytona Beach is the king of beach driving. The first stock car races (which turned in to NASCAR) started on these very beaches. Don’t visit Daytona without making a visit!

The World Center of Racing – Daytona International Speedway and Daytona 500 Experience are all parts of the World Center of Racing. For racing enthusiasts, this compound is the Mecca of the sport. Tours are available of the track, Victory Lane, press boxes, garages and more. Get behind the scenes without all of the hustle and bustle you’ll find on race day.

Daytona Beach Boardwalk and Pier – The Daytona Beach Boardwalk harkens back to boardwalks of old. The games, the food and the atmosphere will take you back in time. Ride Go Karts or even the Sling Shot which will send passengers 360 feet in the air at around 100 miles per hour! Restaurants like Joe’s Crab Shack and Pizza King will quell the hunger that you work up having so much fun.

Ponce Inlet – Ponce Inlet is located at the southern end of Daytona Beach. The main attraction is the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse which was finished in 1887. Each year over 80 thousand visitors come to see the lighthouse. Standing at 175 feet tall, this is one piece of history you won’t want to miss.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things to do in Daytona Beach, but these attractions are a great place to start.
